Doctors amputated the right leg of a surfer who was bitten by a shark Saturday.
Caleb Swanepoel, 19, a student at the University of Cape Town, had been surfing at Buffels Bay, close to Knysna in South Africa's Western Cape.

An emergency services helicopter airlifted him to the hospital and he's "in a stable but serious condition," the Cape Town-based National Sea Rescue Institute said in an e- mailed statement.
It was the second shark encounter in 24 hours, and institute officials "are urging bathers and surfers to be cautious. It is advised not to enter the water in the area until municipal authorities advise further."
Dylan Reddering, 23, also a student at the University of Cape Town, was surfing off Look Out Beach in Plettenberg Bay, which is in South Africa's Western Cape, when he was bitten on Friday by what appeared to be a great white shark about six feet long, the NSRI said in an earlier statement.
